Easy Yoke, Light Burden By Maryam Bature

It’s another working day again, it sends cold thrills down my spine as I remember how I have to work without rest. How I will have to do everything myself without anyone helping out, where I will have to work day in, day out with no break.

I tried to stand up, but my waist hurts and I remember that my whole body aches as I haven’t had enough rest since the first time I started working under my master.

And now mean-looking again, I just remember my master. The mean-looking master, the heartless one, very angry and harsh, very authoritative and ruthless. Always punishing those that work to r him.

You dare not rest, you dare not object to him, you dare not relax, you dare not stand still without doing anything or sit with nothing doing except if you want to be punished. For as long you keep working under him, you keep on having new tasks added to you each second, each minute, each hour, each day.

He never allows anyone to have some rest, he always says there’s no time, he always complains of us being works space always says he needs more people to join his workspace, he never appreciates anyone no matter what you do, he gripped on the move and never relax or rest.

Fear gripped me as I remembered all paste and I stood up to get ready for my work. I was gotten past my window and I sighted my neighbor, she just got up from her bed. She was looking so calm and relaxed, it looked like her thoughts are collected because she was all smiles and glowing.

I thought within myself, what type of abe master does she have? I have never seen her panic or be scared of her master, whenever she talks about Him, she’s always happy. And one can see rivers of joy flowing within her.

Then something stroke my mind, why not ask her more about her Master? Why not inquire from her how I can get employed at her Master’s place of work? So that I can enjoy the freedom she enjoys, so that I chase happy as she is, so that I can have the joy she the Master’ shown her.

So I went and I asked her about her Master’s, how I can get to apply at her place of work. What I need to do in tot employed, what I need to get and present to be accepted at her place of work. And all she told me was “follow me to my Master and pledge your loyalty, try to believe Him that’s all”.
I was so surprised, shocked and amazed as nothing much was required of me just my full submission, just my clean heart, just my obedience, just my dedication, and I get accepted. I get the freedom I long for, I get the peace I deserve, I get the joy I wish for, I get the happiness I am supposed to have.

I will no longer be treated as a slave or servant, but as one of His children. I will begin even the right to be called His daughter, I will have an affiliation to His kingdom, I will be together with Him as His princess.

I will not have to worry about overworking myself, I will not have to carry my burden alone, I will not have to care for myself alone. Anything disturbing me, anything hurting me, anything giving me a problem, anything I need, will all be taken care of. All I need to o, is just to tell Him about it, and everything will be settled with the snap of His fingers. Just as He is a KING, so also will I be a KING myself.

Getting to know about this from my neighbor, I ran back to my apartment so excited and eager to dress up and follow her to meet with this her generous Master because I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life, I can’t wait to join that mighty and wonder EMPIRE which is called THE KINGS EMPIRE.

Where I will have rest from carrying my heavy burden, where my heavy load will be taken away and everything will be made easy and light for me, where I will not be a servant anymore but a daughter belonging to a real family.

Just like in Matthew 11:28-30 which says “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. The Yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light. ”

Autobiography

My name is Kassim Maryam Bature and I am born on 3the rd of April, 1994 in Gusau, Zamfara State. My parents are Mr. Bature Garba and Mrs. Salamatu Bature who are from Katsina State. I have three siblings, two females and one male, and their names are Habiba, Hannatu, and middle-class early childhood wa1990s that of a typical middle class Nigerian around 11990s.

I went to Fatima Nursery and Primary School for my primary education and I graduated in the year 2005. I immediately went to Diamond Wisdom College where I got my Junior secondary education, and I graduated in the year 2008. That same year, I went to Prince International School for my senior secondary education. I graduated from secondary school in the year 2011.

That year, my WAEC, NECO ,and JAMB results came out and I passed all. I went for post- UTME and also passed but I didn’t get admission into the university that year, which lead to me g to SBRS for my remedial studies. After a year of temedial studies, I passed and got admitted into Ahmadu Bello University in thar 2012 to study Human Anatomy.

Living life with tickle cell anemia didn’t make life easier but through all these, I have prevailed through Christ. The Lord keeps proving Himself Faithful. I am a writer today because God awakened that part of me I never knew existed. I am focused and determined to venture on the adventurous path of a poet and writer in general. By His grace , I have plans and will follow each at a time.
